There are many well-marked hiking trails as well as some cycling routes. You can hike around the reservoir and from the dam (Oleftalsperre) you have an amazing view. The chances of spotting a deer or bird of prey while hiking are high. But if you want to be sure to see animals, visit Wildfreigehege nature park, a nature park with all kinds of animals such as deer, boar and even wolves.

A special place nearby is Burg Reifferscheid, the castle and historic village can be visited for free. Very characteristic and photo-worthy.
