Stadl an der Mur is a small municipality and popular holiday resort in Styria's Murtal holiday region. Located at 884 meters, it lies on the Murradweg in the west. It is considered the gateway to Styria from Lungau in Salzburgerland and Carinthia via the Turracher Höhe —the idyllic Alm-See plateau.

In the immediate vicinity (approx. 5-10 minutes by car) is the well-known Kreischberg family ski area, the most modern ski area in the holiday region with 42 km of snow-assured slopes and 13 cable cars and lifts. This makes carving and snowboarding fun! Another ski area and excellent hiking paradise in the Nockberge is the Turracher Höhe, with 43 kilometres of slopes. This ski resort offers a wide range of services; winter fans can ski, cross-country, and toboggan, and go winter hiking. Thanks to the high altitude of this ski area and its snow security, it is open until the end of April. A third ski area in the region is the family ski area, Lachtal (between Murau and Judenburg), with 35 kilometres of slopes.

The chalet is in a small chapel at 900 meters and about 2 km from the centre of Stadl a der Mur, with several shops, restaurants, and a popular swimming lake. The late Gothic parish church and the 16th-century Goppelsbach castle are worth seeing in the village. Murau is about 15 km away and has a beautiful old centre and an indoor swimming pool.

The chalet is located in an area known as one of Austria's sunniest regions. The landscape is characterised by quiet mountain passes, small traditional villages, and densely forested mountain slopes. The region also offers several golf clubs for a relaxing golf holiday, such as the Murau-Kreischberg Golf Club or the Grebenzen Golf Club.

On the outskirts of Stadl an der Mur is a large leisure centre; it offers a 7,000 m² swimming lake with a section for non-swimmers and a paddling pool for children. There are spacious sunbathing areas all around, and the leisure centre also includes a playground, a half-pipe, a beach volleyball court and a football pitch, several tennis courts and a children's play park
