Ski Resort Highlights
Scheffau – Ski Map & Pistes
The upper slopes of Scheffau, within the SkiWelt domain, form the central core of this vast interconnected ski paradise. This resort proves to be an excellent choice for enthusiastic intermediates looking to explore the vast ski area and rack up some impressive mileage.
Ascending from the valley, two parallel gondolas operate from the base area hamlet of Blaiken, approximately one kilometre from the heart of the village of Scheffau. A convenient ski bus and footpath link the village to Blaiken. In good snow conditions it is also possible to ski down from the village to the lift station via the blue trail on the footpath.
Close to the village there's a separate compact area for beginners, set in the meadows. However, the main beginners' slopes can be found in the Brandstadl area, at the top of the gondolas.
The wide and gently sloping snowbowl beyond Brandstadl provides the ideal setting for beginners to progress with confidence. For more experienced skiers, this area provides an easy gateway to the steeper terrain of the central Eiberg and Zinsberg peaks at the heart of SkiWelt. From here, all the other sectors are easily accessible.
Scheffau offers two fantastic long runs back to the base area at Blaiken - one blue and one red. There are also a number of challenging ungroomed 'ski routes' for advanced skiers and snowboarders looking for a thrill, especially after a fresh snowfall.

Scheffau - Environmental responsibility
While the allure of these snow-capped landscapes is irresistible, we must accept our responsibility to the environment. Scheffau is committed to preserving its natural beauty for future generations.
As visitors, there are several steps we can take to reduce our impact:
- Respect designated routes: Stay on marked trails and respect designated ski areas to minimise damage to the fragile alpine ecosystem.
- Avalanche safety: Stay informed about avalanche risks and carry the necessary safety equipment, such as avalanche transceivers and shovels, when exploring the backcountry.
- Local advice: Seek advice from locals who have valuable insight into sustainable practices and responsible skiing in the area.
- Environmental Initiatives: Scheffau is actively involved in a number of environmental initiatives. As a visitor, you can support these efforts by participating in local clean-up events or contributing to conservation projects.

Scheffau – Restaurants, Bars & The Town
Scheffau offers a range of delicious dining options to satisfy your taste buds. For a taste of authentic Austrian cuisine, head to Gasthaus Weberbauer. Its traditional dishes and warm atmosphere make it a favourite with locals and visitors alike. If you're in the mood for international flavours, Gasthof Alte Mittel serves up delicious fusion dishes with scenic views.
After a day on the slopes, head to the Stern Bar for some après-ski fun. The lively atmosphere and drinks are perfect for unwinding. Note, however, that there are few laid-back bars in the village itself, so if you're looking for a lively nightlife scene, you may have to venture into neighbouring towns. In terms of nightlife and nightclubs, Scheffau is relatively low-key. For a livelier experience, consider exploring the vibrant nightlife scenes in nearby Ellmau or Söll.
For relaxation, there are several wellness centres and spas in the area. The Kaiser Spa offers a range of treatments to rejuvenate your body and mind. In addition, the Panorama Badewelt in nearby Walchsee is a popular destination for swimming and relaxation, with indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and stunning views of the lake.
As a smaller village, Scheffau does not have a cinema. However, Ellmau and other nearby towns may have cinemas for those seeking cinematic entertainment.
Please note that some facilities in Scheffau may have limited opening hours, especially during the low season in winter. It's always best to check in advance to avoid disappointment.
Although Scheffau offers a range of dining, après-ski and relaxation options, it may not have a vibrant nightlife, but its charm lies in its peaceful ambience and natural beauty. It's an ideal destination for families and those looking for a more relaxed, traditional Austrian winter holiday.
